MEET ERNESTO GAINZA

Born in Valencia, Venezuela, Ernesto moved to the United Kingdom as a young adult to further his education. A year later, he jumped from his first plane, igniting a newfound passion that would change the course of his life forever.

Over the next five years, Ernesto went on to compete in the British Parachute Association as well as skydiving nationals and canopy piloting nationals in Czech Republic, Spain, and Germany. By 2009, he had grown to become one of the world’s leading canopy pilots, competing in the world championships in South Africa. That same year, he founded the Flight Parachuting Demo Team, which performed at major air shows and high-profile venues across Europe. In 2010, he participated in the Italian canopy piloting nationals and capped his competitive career at the world championships in the Czech Republic a year later.

After retiring from competition in 2011, Gainza became a sought-after skydiving instructor, instructor examiner, and motivational speaker. He is a licensed United States Parachute Association (USPA) coach and accelerated free-fall Instructor who served terms as a safety and training advisor with the USPA and Emirates Aerosports Federation.

Ernesto holds many professional ratings, certifications, and licenses through institutions ranging from the USPA to the British Parachute Association, the Emirates Aerosports Federation, and Fédération Française de Parachutisme.

As a professional exhibition skydiver, Ernesto has jumped into a wide array of notable public and private events. He also achieved a number of death-defying jumps and landings. He jumped from the highest waterfall on Earth and pulled off successful landedings on the roof of a 32-story building, on top of a hot air balloon, and on the back of a moving sports car. He was the first skydiver to go through Puente Nuevo's arch in Ronda, Spain and jumped in the first side-by-side formation with a Sukhoi Su-31 acrobatic plane.
